Adult CPVA Training - Advanced

Adolescent child to parent violence and abuse is often called older abuse, however it is important to recognise that it may be Adult CPVA.  This half day training builds upon the knowledge gained on the CPVA - introduction training and is a requirement that you have attended some form of CPVA training before. Research on parents killed by their children highlighted that children aged between 10-17 accounted for 9% of  parricides. The average  age of the young person committing parricide was between 20-29.  Further research in 2019 research evidenced 25  cases of adult family homicides of which 5 young people aged between 15 -  29  were convicted of parricide.  This training  allows professional to take into consideration what support is available for parents and carers as well as how do we hold the person using violence and abuse accountable for their behaviour. Which in turn may promote a reduction abusive behaviour in the family home.

Adolescent Intimate Partner Violence & Abuse (IPVA) Training

During 2013 the definition of domestic abuse changed to include young people aged 16-17 years old. The change in definition gave young people the right to access domestic abuse services, previously only available to those aged 18 or older.  Again in 2021 legislitaive changes saw children recognised as victims of domestic abuse. This change meant that young people during a transitional age had access to domestic abuse services and recognised as victims.  However the legislation did not take into consideration children under 16 in abusive relationships and rely on children service and youth justice to manage the dynamic.  Our training supports professionals working with young people who are in abusive relationships to assess and manage risk and safety planning.

CPVA Family Wheel Training

The Duluth model Power and control wheels where adapted originally by the children and family justice centre in America and is an integral part of the Step-up programme.  The family abuse wheel was created to reflect the dynamics of family violence within the home environment and how it differed from some of the behaviours seen on the original Power and control wheel relating to domestic violence and abuse. Silenced  has adapted the wheels and included an emotional wheel to aid response based practice 1-1 sessions and group sessions.  As with the Duluth model, the wheels can be used independently from a programme as an interim provision until the appropriate provision is in place; it can also be used to ascertain risk levels in the family home.
